The Essence of Human Relations

As we go about our various daily activities, we are impacted by the presence and activities of others, whether they are physically nearby or more distant.  Actions, previously taken by others have left physical, mental, and other legacies, which will come into play…just as actions taken by ourselves are doing…and will continue to do. The degree to which those many and varied actions were undertaken with substantial consideration for future impact on others, will usually be felt by those inheriting the situation.  In other words, thinking about others, as we go about our business, may bring about unforeseen advantages to many, in the future.

Awareness of such facts, in life, plays a substantial role in our human relations.  This fact alone, it would seem, should help to bring about some steady improvement in human life experience……….but, just as we begin to embrace positive thoughts, along this line, we may think of experiences with others, that do not, quite, go like that. Desiring (perhaps a little too strongly) the kind of uplifting relations that add so much to life, awareness of someone who might appear insensitive (or worse) to the needs of others, can mess up your day. It may cause you to reflect on the very value of others around you.

Most of us try to avoid judging others…it is a fundamental credo that is worth keeping, always…but one that may, at times, be hard to appreciate. Some people…when it comes down to some pretty serious matters…just don’t seem to be thinking of anything or anyone but their own, intimate, immediate desires.

We may try to make such individuals aware of their foibles, but, usually, to no avail.  A determination, to relentlessly follow their previously programmed agenda, will probably prevail. When such an experience, in life, appears on a very basic, profound level we, necessarily, associate such a person with traits we’d rather live without.  This is quite natural.  We should avoid the company of those we are just not comfortable around.  On the other hand, such a person may have worth we just can not find…in a place far from us. Coming into contact with those, we do not really care to be around, is, generally, something that can be avoided…we should assume reasonable responsibility for such events, if possible.  Also, protecting ourselves from this, in the future should involve the proper use of our resources, without obscuring our continuing appropriate levels of sensitivity…some people may be “adjusting” their “positions”, even as we witness it.  Proper distance is always a critical part of all relations.
